Medeco & High-Security Locks
Key control · Pick, bump & drill resistance
Everyday locks are built for convenience and price. They do a good job of keeping a door shut, but most can be picked or bumped, and their keys can be copied at any hardware store or kiosk.
A high-security lock covers both. It is built to resist picking, bumping and drilling, and its keys are patent-protected: they can only be cut by an authorized dealer, with your written permission. You always know how many keys exist and who has them.
Who needs key control
Ask yourself two questions. Are you going to issue keys to employees? And is it OK for them to have copies made without your permission or knowledge? If the second answer is no, a high-security key is the right fit, because an ordinary key can be copied by anyone who holds it.
That's why high-security cylinders are standard in offices, retail, medical and dental practices, schools, churches, property management, utilities, and anywhere cash, drugs, records or firearms are stored. Homeowners use them too, for the same reason: contractors, cleaners and tenants come and go.
How a Medeco resists attack
A standard pin-tumbler lock opens when every pin is lifted to the right height. A Medeco's pins also have to be twisted to the right angle, and a sidebar blocks the plug until they are. That's what defeats a bump key: it can bounce the pins up, but it can't rotate them.
We install Medeco's current platforms — Medeco M3 and Medeco X4 — along with Mul-T-Lock, ASSA and Schlage Primus, and fit them to the door hardware you already have wherever we can.
Master-keyed and growing with you
High-security cylinders can be master-keyed, so a manager opens every door while staff open only theirs. We keep your key system records, so when you add a door, change a lock, or need another key cut, it fits the system you already have.
Straight answers
High-Security Locks: common questions
No. Medeco keys are patent-protected and the blanks are only sold to authorized dealers. A copy can only be cut through us, and only with the written authorization of the person who controls the key system.
Usually not. In many cases we replace just the cylinder — the part the key goes into — and keep your existing lock, lever or deadbolt. We'll tell you on site whether your hardware can take it.
Both are high-security platforms with patented key control. Which one fits depends on your doors, how many people need keys, and whether you want to tie into an existing system. We'll recommend one after we've seen the job.
